About the Study

This study examines the integration of wellness practices by counselor educators within their teaching methods. Through an analysis of strategies, challenges, and perspectives, it seeks to clarify how wellness is represented and encouraged in counselor training programs. The results are intended to inform teaching approaches, support educator well-being, and contribute to the development of future counselors. Counselor educators are invited to contribute their insights on wellness in the context of teaching. The experiences shared will enhance our understanding and support the advancement of wellness practices within counselor education. Meet the Researchers

We are two committed counselor educators who are dedicated to promoting wellness and sharing valuable insights that positively impact the counselor education classroom. We welcome you to learn more about us and consider joining our study.


  • Dr. Jessica Paulhus is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), licensed addictions counselor (LCDP), Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and a passionate educator with a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. With over 18 years of experience in both clinical practice and academic settings, Dr. Paulhus has dedicated her career to helping individuals overcome mental health challenges and addictions while training and mentoring the next generation of counselors. 

    In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Paulhus serves as a professor in Counselor Education at Johnson and Wales University, where she teaches graduate-level courses on co-occurring disorders, counseling techniques, wellness counseling and clinical supervision. She is deeply committed to supporting aspiring counselors and fostering their professional development. Dr. Paulhus is also a member of the North Atlantic Region Association of Counselor Education and Supervision’s (NARACES) wellness committee. 

  • Yeşim Giresunlu is a Licenses Professional Counselor (LPC) and assistant Professor in the Counselor Education Department at Johnson & Wales University. She specializes in integrated behavioral health practices and clinical supervision. She has over six years of clinical experience and over six years of experience providing supervision to master’s students. Her scholarly agenda focuses on processes and outcomes of counselors, supervisors, and clients that are unique to Integrated Behavioral Health settings.
